Information, Resources, and Awards

Addiction is a preventable disease. Here, we provide additional resources within your community to help share real insight into substance use, abuse, and addiction. At ROH, we are here to help you better understand the roles opioids can play in addiction and what we and others can do to help.

Addiction involves craving something intensely, losing control over its use, and continuing involvement with it despite adverse consequences. Addiction changes the brain, first by subverting the way it registers pleasure and then by corrupting other normal drives such as learning and motivation.

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based treatment that, when combined with counseling and other therapeutic techniques, provides a whole-patient approach. MAT can help to reestablish normal brain function, reduce substance cravings, and prevent relapse. The longer the individual remains in treatment, the more they will be able to manage their dependency and move toward recovery.
